Michael Bliss: Chauvinist

Today Michael Bliss advocates Newfoundland separatism in his National Post piece. My reaction to the professor:

Michael Bliss shows that the tradition of Brahmin paternalism is still alive in Ontario with his post-Wente piece on dispatching Newfoundland. How clever of him to absorb the outraged reaction of Newfoundlanders to Marg Wente's execrable Globe column and craft a more airless knockoff.

It seems that there is a tinge of atavistic Upper Canadian logic in the Bliss proposal for Lesser Canada. Conflating "Canada's territorial integrity" with Ontario access to the sea through Quebec reads like vintage Family Compact cant.

Paul Martin's election game of bait and switch is the cause of all this turmoil but Bliss and Wente do not let facts get in the way of their efforts at shunning Newfoundlanders.

Try this on for size Professor Bliss: The "integrity"of the prosperous western provinces is not dependent on continued amalgamation with your central roost. Your Lesser Canada could find itself a great deal smaller than your arrogant suggestion intends.
