Memo to Millionaire War Protesters:The Sixties Are Over

Syd Barrett passed away, to the end a reclusive savant starkly contrasting to his sixties contemporaries who still live in a pretend world where millionaire globetrotters masquerade as blue collar war protesters. David Crosby and Neil Young lead this parade of perennial juveniles careening precipitously toward a second childhood.

"Syd Barrett, the troubled genius who co-founded Pink Floyd but spent much of his life as a recluse, has died at the age of 60, a spokeswoman for the band confirmed Tuesday. "

This was a man

CBC Arts: Messer pianist Waldo Munro dead at 76.

"Munro was a mainstay of Messer's band The Islanders and stayed until its demise in 1973.

A native of Westville, N.S., Munro was an accomplished baseball player and renowned pitcher in Pictou County before making music his career."

The Hypocrites: new hippie capitalist band

CTV reports that Canadian musicians denounce suing music fans. This is more of the usual absurdity coming from Ticketmaster capitalists pretending to be profit-allergic missionaries.

"Some of Canada's musical heavyweights want their fans to continue to be able to download songs without the fear of being sued."

John Mayall's Crusade

Apropos to a Friday afternoon in the office: John Mayall's Crusade album was recorded in our Centennial year. Today it sells in CD form at Sam's for $8 and remains as virile an album of British blues as any made. Mick Taylor on guitar should be enough to drive the price to $20 but time has its way, not just with virility but also with memory.

Big Joe And Phantom 309

Dedicated with defiance to every jaded cynic born after the Korean War who sells the working folk of this whole continent short on brains, guts and soul.

This is Red Sovine's country ghost story Big Joe And Phantom 309:

Naw, this happens every now and then
Ever' driver in here knows Big Joe
But son, let me tell you what happened about ten years ago.
At the crossroads tonight, where you flagged him down
There was a bus load of kids, comin' from town
And they were right in the middle, when Big Joe topped the hill
It could have been slaughter, but he turned his wheel.
Well, Joe lost control, went into a skid
And gave his life to save that bunch-a kids

Mallick Admits To Strange Moment

Mallick's 'Distemper':

"One of the strangest moments of my life took place at the Bruce Springsteen concert this month."

This is just another middle-aged teenybopper confusing the lyrics of her favourite commercial recording artist with profundity and wisdom. By the way, 'Candy's Room' from the same album 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' should frighten Mallick, a truly appalling progressive Pollyanna:
But to get to Candy's room
you gotta walk the darkness of Candy's hall
Strangers from the city call my baby's number
and they bring her toys
When I come knocking she smiles pretty
she knows I wanna be Candy's boy

Long John Baldry - 1941-2005

Long John Baldry - 1941-2005 :

Whatever the state of world affairs, there is time to stand and drink a Jagermeister toast to the late master of British blues.

I am listening to the vinyl version of Flying from the It Ain't Easy album with Elton John's band putting out some fine electric blues on a Faces tune penned by Rod Stewart, Ron Wood and Ronnie Lane.

Slow melancholy beauty is just so perfectly defined by the sublime mentor of Stewart and John.

He sang as if Sinatra had hooked up with Muddy Waters.

News Exclusive: Surfaris Perform Liberal Campaign Theme Song

Wipeout Central.

This California band has the right tune and the geriatric heritage to appeal to the Martin/Chretien Orchestra who will be doing the singing on the hustings in this coming election. How convenient that Wipeout is an instrumental, conseqently suitable for campaigning in both official languages.

Phantom 309

The world would be a much better place if people followed the example of the plain moral goodness of Big Joe and Red Sovine's Phantom 309.
